As CEO of Sejahtera Leadership Initiative (SLI) & Global Sejahtera, that through the various sejahtera (prosperity) research, projects, and activities, I realized when people are treated with dignity, their physical, mental and social wellbeing improves. The core aspects of dignity and wellbeing are (1) Acknowledging of Personhood by recognizing a person's unique identity, history, and values rather than reducing them to label, diagnosis, or age group; (2) Autonomy & Independence by giving individuals the power to make choices, control their own daily lives, and participate in decisions about their care; (3) Privacy and Safety providing physical & emotional space where people feel secure, protected, and respected; (3) Freedom from Stigma and Discrimination by eliminating social prejudice, self-stigma & institutional barrier that marginalize vulnerable groups, such as adults, people with disabilities, or those facing mental challenges; (4) Access to Information & Support by ensuring people clearly understand their options, receive timely updates, can access community-based care, social services and resources. The Malaysia MADANI Budget 2027 allocates a record total of RM510 billion explicitly aimed at upholding the dignity & wellbeing of the people at all levels. Styled under the theme “Reaching for the Skies, while anchored on our values,” Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented the budget as a national covenant ensuring that every Malaysians can live a live of true progress, justice, and social dignity. To provide a baseline of dignity, the national framework funnels the heaviest portions of its RM459.8 billion government expenditure into core humanity infrastructure.
Based on my experience with SLI programs, I believe the future of human wellbeing & dignity depends on how society balances technological growth with ethical values. As artificial intelligence, & global shifts change how we live and work, protecting individual worth will require conscious design for sustainable living. We must not compromise the quality of life for our future generations.
