THE Ministry of Finance is set to announce good news for the monthly RON95 qualification ceiling for e-hailing drivers after receiving an appeal from the group concerned.
Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican said this would be announced in the near future.
“To provide a basis for their appeal, we (MOF) have examined the usage data provided by platform providers. Based on the data, we will make a decision on improving the qualifications of e-hailing drivers.
“The improvements will take effect this November,” he said as reported by BuletinTV3.
He was asked about the insistence of e-hailing drivers to increase the BUDI95 qualification ceiling limit to between 800 and 1,000 litres per month.
“The government has met with e-hailing platforms and the Ministry of Transport to see the adequacy of the qualification limit for e-hailing parties and there is a principled agreement to improve the qualification level, but this will be announced in the near future,” he explained.
Since October 13, 2025, the government has increased the monthly RON95 qualification ceiling for full-time e-hailing drivers, which has been doubled to 600 litres per month, benefiting almost 58,000 e-hailing drivers.
According to MOF, 16.55 million Malaysians are eligible to enjoy the subsidised price of RON95 at a rate of RM1.99 per litre compared to RM2.60 per litre without subsidy since the implementation of BUDI95, exceeding the original projection of 15 million people.
Under the BUDI95 programme, all Malaysian MyKad holders aged 16 and above who have an active driving license are eligible to purchase subsidised RON95 up to 300 litres per month. – November 3, 2025
