THE nation's new targeted petrol subsidy programme, BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), launched last month, has been running smoothly without causing complications for consumers, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Wednesday.
"The phased implementation of the BUDI95 programme allows an initial test of the system on a small scale before expanding to a larger target group," Anwar said.
"This approach is important to enable the government to identify, assess and improve any technical, logistical or operational weaknesses that may arise during the early implementation period."
Speaking in a parliamentary response to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (Ayer Hitam-BN), Anwar noted that the first month of BUDI95 had seen stable system operations, with no significant queues or complications for users.
"In the first month of BUDI95 implementation, it can be said to have run smoothly, with the system operating steadily and generally not causing complications or long lines for consumers," he said.
Anwar also drew lessons from technical disruptions experienced during the rollout of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) assistance programme in late August.
"Despite the simultaneous implementation of SARA for all starting 31 August, the BUDI95 programme was carried out in phases, beginning with military and police personnel on 27 September 2025, followed by STR recipients on 28 September, and subsequently expanded to eligible Malaysian citizens on 30 September 2025," he said.
The government has emphasised that the phased strategy is intended to ensure efficiency and minimise operational issues before the programme reaches wider coverage. - October 29, 2025
