SANDAKAN: The Budi Madani Ron95 (Budi95) scheme will help reduce government spending as fuel subsidies will no longer be enjoyed by foreigners.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said more than 4,000 petrol stations nationwide are involved, with Petronas playing a leading role in the rollout.

He said the programme, which began with police and armed forces personnel, serves as a “stress test” to check the system’s reliability at stations and on servers, with about 300,000 personnel benefiting in the first phase.

Saifuddin added that the use of MyKad is central to the scheme as proof of citizenship, and the National Registration Department has waived the RM10 replacement fee until Oct 7 to ease the process for those with faulty chips.

He said more than 13,600 MyKad replacements were recorded within five days after the announcement on Sept 21, compared to the usual average of 5,000, showing the public’s awareness of the programme.
