Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars reunite for poignant tribute at Emmy Awards

  • Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz reunited on stage at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles to pay an emotional tribute to three of their late Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-stars who passed away over the past two years.
  • The actors remembered Michelle Trachtenberg, who died aged 39 from diabetes complications in February 2025; Nicholas Brendon, who died aged 54 in March 2026; and Anthony Head, who passed away aged 72 from pneumonia complications in June 2026.
  • Addressing the audience, Gellar acknowledged how difficult the recent period had been for the show's cast and crew, expressing gratitude for having had the opportunity to know and work alongside such incredible colleagues.
  • During their stage appearance, the co-stars also joked about a proposed Buffy reboot that streaming platform Hulu ultimately decided not to pick up after a pilot episode was filmed.
  • Originally broadcast between 1997 and 2003, Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed a teenager chosen to fight supernatural forces and remains widely celebrated as one of the greatest television series of all time.
