KLUANG: The Bukit Aman Air Operation (PGU) Drone Unit has been deployed to join in the search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate a former army commando, who was reported missing on Thursday.

District police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the operation, which entered its second day today, was launched by an 80-member team comprising personnel from the 5th Battalion, Simpang Renggam General Operations Force, Kluang Fire and Rescue station and Kluang Civil Defence Force (APM).

“The search area was also expanded to approximately eight kilometres, compared to three kilometres yesterday.

“We also have personnel from the scuba diving unit,“ he told reporters here.

A retiree from the Special Forces Group, Ab Manan Keri, 73, dressed in the Commando Veterans Club uniform, did not return home after attending an event at Dataran Tasik Kluang here.

Yesterday, Bahrin was reported to have said that the victim was believed to have fallen into a big drain near Sungai Mengkibol.

Meanwhile, the victim’s son, Mohamad Shahfullah, 29, said he could only pray and hope that his father would soon be found safe.

“We are very grateful for the efforts launched by the rescue team,“ he said. - Bernama
