THE Director of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN), Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, received a courtesy visit from the Drug Policy Program Malaysia (DPPM) and international experts from Portugal and the United Kingdom at Bukit Aman.

The meeting brought together leading figures in law enforcement and modern drug policy to exchange expertise and strengthen professional collaboration.

According to JSJN, the courtesy visit aimed to establish initial ties between the department and international experts through a formal introduction session.

It also served as a platform for strategic discussions on Malaysia’s current drug enforcement approaches, policy issues, operational challenges, and the effectiveness of ongoing measures.

“The session provided an opportunity to explore international best practices, particularly models used in Portugal and the United Kingdom, covering field experiences, prevention, rehabilitation, and policy frameworks adopted by the Portuguese National Police,” JSJN said in a Facebook statement.

“The visit also featured a presentation by Commander Rui Filipe Costa from the Lisbon Public Security Police, who shared how their enforcement agencies address drug misuse through integrated, community-based and modern policing strategies,” it added.

The delegation included Superintendent Commandant Rui Filipe Costa (Public Security Police of Lisbon), Nuno Capaz (Lisbon Dissuasion Commission), Neil Woods (Law Enforcement Action Partnership), Palani Narayanan (Director of Drug Policy Program Malaysia) and Farid Zuhri Ismail (Senior Technical Officer, DPPM).

Representing JSJN were Deputy Director (Forfeiture of Property/Legal/Detention) Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohd Zani Che Din, Deputy Director (Intelligence/Operations) Datuk Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali, Deputy Director (Enforcement/Prevention/General Policing) Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar, Senior Assistant Director (Intelligence/Operations) Datuk Jasmirol Jamaluddin, Assistant Commissioner Chandra Segaran Subramaniam and senior JSJN officers.
