PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman will work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate allegedly leaked information about the police probe into Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s murder case.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain said the police would contact MCMC to remove the content, first detected on a Telegram account yesterday, and prevent it from being spread on other platforms.
The parents of Zayn, an autistic six-year-old who was murdered last December, pleaded not guilty to child neglect at the Petaling Jaya sessions court yesterday after initially being probed for murder.
Shuhaily said that the “irresponsible dissemination of information” could not only affect the trial, but also have an adverse effect on the prosecution, defence lawyers, and Zayn’s family.

“This is an irresponsible act which can disrupt the trial proceedings and ultimately deny Zayn justice. I will not hesitate to prosecute the parties responsible for this because all the hard work of our colleagues (CID team) in investigating (the case) could be compromised,” he added.
Shuhaily also said that the murder probe under Section 302 of the Penal Code had been completed, although police would re-open the case under that section if necessary.
“As I said yesterday, the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code was concluded when the parents were prosecuted yesterday under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act.
“However, if there are new developments in the trial (such as) findings (evidence) that fall under Section 302 of the Penal Code, the DPP (deputy public prosecutor) can direct us and we will reinvestigate the case (under Section 302 of the Penal Code).”
He had been asked to comment on lawyer Fahmi Moin stating yesterday that police were still investigating Zayn’s murder despite the charge of child neglect against the boy’s parents.
Fahmi, who is representing Zayn’s father, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, said the police would continue their investigation to hunt down the culprit behind Zayn’s murder.
Zaim and Zayn’s mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, were charged yesterday under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, they could each face a fine of not more than RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both.
Zayn was reported missing in Damansara Damai on Dec 5 last year and found dead the next day. The post-mortem revealed multiple injuries, including defensive wounds, while the cause of death was believed to be strangulation.
