The Court of Appeal has slated July 29 as the pivotal date to hear the prosecution's appeal challenging the acquittal of Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his wife, Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, on three corruption charges totaling RM2.8 million related to Felcra Bhd's investments.

In today's case management, Deputy Registrar Muhammad Noor Firdaus Rosli set the aforementioned date and scheduled the final case management for July 15.

Representing the couple, lawyer K. Sagana appeared, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry stood for the prosecution.

Confirming the date, Teh See Khoon, one of Zizie Izette's lawyers, validated the mention when contacted by Bernama.

The legal saga dates back to September 7 last year when the High Court, in response to their review application, granted their release. This followed the Sessions Court's September 2, 2022, decision that mandated the couple to stand trial. Subsequently, the prosecution filed an appeal on September 18.

Bung Moktar, then Felcra's Non-Executive Chairman, faced charges on May 3, 2019. He stood accused of accepting bribes amounting to RM2.2 million and RM262,500 to facilitate Felcra's RM150 million investment in Public Mutual unit trusts.

The alleged bribe transactions occurred between 12:30 pm and 5:00 pm on June 12, 2015, purportedly orchestrated through Public Mutual Berhad's investment agent, Madhi Abdul Hamid, with Zizie Izette's involvement at Public Bank Taman Melawati Branch.

Furthermore, Bung Moktar was charged with receiving RM337,500 in cash from Norhaili Unit Trust consultant Ahmad Mokhtar, again with Zizie Izette's involvement, on June 19, 2015. Zizie Izette herself faced charges of abetting her husband in these actions at the same time, place, and date.

As the legal battle continues its intricate course, the setting of the appeal hearing date marks another chapter in the unfolding narrative surrounding this high-profile case.
