SABAH Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has advised former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to remain committed to the party if he decides to return, following reports that he may be offered a path back into Umno.
Bung Moktar said he had learnt from the media that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had extended the invitation to Khairy, who was expelled from the party last year.
“So if this is what the party president wants, I do not think we have an issue because Umno is open. But what I want to advise is this: if you come in, stay in. Do not come in and then leave again,” he said after attending a Felcra interim profit distribution ceremony on 1 November.
Umno supreme council member Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub also commented that decisions on former members returning to the party are guided by its constitution and ultimately rest with the president.
“Some leave, some want to come back. Those who leave have their reasons, and those who want to return also have reasons. There are rules and processes,” he said.
He added that the party president was known for being fair-minded and prioritising Umno’s unity. “We know the president is not vindictive and he prioritises the party. So we leave it to his wisdom. I do not know how genuine this intention is or the method and process, but there is a way to do it,” he added.
Earlier reports stated that the former Rembau MP had conveyed his intention to rejoin Umno to Ahmad Zahid. However, neither has publicly confirmed the matter, and according to party sources, no formal application has been submitted. - November 2, 2025
