KOTA KINABALU: In the wake of the tragic UPSI express bus crash in Gerik, Perak, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has urged express bus drivers in the state to strictly adhere to speed limits and prioritise passenger safety at all times.

Expressing condolences to the victims’ families, the Kinabatangan MP said the incident, which claimed the lives of university students, should serve as a wake-up call for all operators and drivers nationwide, especially in Sabah.

“Don’t let time pressure justify reckless driving. Every passenger is a life entrusted by their loved ones. One moment of carelessness can cost lives,” he said.

“Risk management must come before profit. The Road Transport Department (JPJ) should step up inspections on buses and driver records.

“Safety must not be optional. Let’s not wait for a similar tragedy to hit Sabah before action is taken,” he said in a statement.
