A local celebrity chef recently slammed Bungkus Kaw Kaw after having to pay an additional price for Sambal for his Nasi Lemak Rendang Ayam (which did not come with any Sambal).

Chef Zam also voiced out against the small portion of chicken, which was sold separately at an additional price of RM4.90. Following the viral feedback, Bungkus Kaw Kaw (BKK) has responded via an official statement today (August 23) on its Facebook page.

BKK said they acknowledged and accepted Chef Zam’s feedback with an open heart, and admitted that the Nasi Lemak Rendang Ayam which the chef ordered indeed does not come with Sambal, and is only served with the Kuah Rendang.

The restaurant, however, promised its patrons that they can expect to see improvements.

“We will immediately improve by serving the Nasi Lemak Rendang Ayam with Sambal, as well as the Kuah Rendang.”

Additionally, BKK also explained that they have 6 varieties of Nasi Lemak with different taste profiles, which are as below,

  1. Original Nasi Lemak (served with Sambal)
  2. Nasi Lemak Rendang Ayam (served with Kuah Rendang)
  3. Nasi Lemak Ayam Merah (served with Sambal Masak Merah)
  4. Nasi Lemak Sambal Udang (served with Sambal Udang)
  5. Nasi Lemak Petai Udang (served with Sambal Petai)
  6. Nasi Lemak Ayam Pedas Tomyam Sotong (served with Sambal Asam Pedas Tomyam)

“Additional charges only apply when add-ons are made to the existing menu,” BKK clarified.

In the meantime, the management of the restaurant also said they have reached out to Chef Zam to clarify the situation, and told Malaysians that they are always open to receiving feedback to improve. You can also click here to browse Bungkus Kaw Kaw’s full menu.
