Burnley boss Vincent Kompany was positive after their opening night defeat to Manchester City.
The Premier League title holders won 3-0 at Turf Moor as Erling Haaland struck twice, with Rodri also on the scoresheet. Burnley's Anass Zaroury sent off in injury time, after a the video assistant referee review, for a dangerous lunge on Kyle Walker.
Kompany said: "We had five guys starting for the first time for the club, one guy starting his first debut in his career...
"Overall we had chances, we knew it was going to be tough so I think we need to take the positives from this game.
"You can't feel good with a defeat, but I have seen enough to know we have made progress since the last time we played them.
"This is going to be the worst we play this season, this team is only going to get stronger.
"You can surprise the main man [Guardiola] sometimes, but he is the one that surprises the most.
"There's nothing more than committing to an idea and a game plan. Then in the game we concede after three minutes and you have to live with the consequences.
"We had that spell in the first half where we created dangerous possession, chances and recovered balls in dangerous areas. And another spell in the second half.
"Those moments where you have momentum you have to do something and we were dangerous but not dangerous enough. Against the best team in the world it is always going to be difficult.
"I said to the team before the game, you want the result, everyone does, but you want to get something out of the game, a moment a tackle, something to build on."
