Burnley aim to sign Montpellier defender Maxime Esteve today.
BBC Sport says the Clarets are working on signing Esteve before tomorrow's transfer deadline.
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany said on Tuesday: "All I can say is that he's not our player at the moment.
I think we're past the point where I can deny there has been interest, right? But the point is he's not our player."
Lille, meanwhile, have failed with a loan offer for Burnley winger Anass Zaroury.
