Some inventive play from Cherki as he flicks it up to himself before trying to volley a cross to the far post, but it’s deflected into Dubarvka’s hands.

65 mins

O’Reilly has unsurprisingly moved to left-back as City look to keep it compact in defence.

A City counter sees Savinho play Cherki down the right, but the Frenchman is crowded out.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

The latest thoughts of Richard Jolly, who’s in place at Turf Moor this evening:

“Perhaps Guardiola should have started with Nico Gonzalez, instead of just bringing him on. Not sure the experiment with O'Reilly in midfield has worked. City have been too open with him there.”

Gonzalez and Savinho have come on for Ait-Nouri and Semenyo.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

61 mins

A couple of brief openings for Burnley from distance but Ward-Prowse has his shot blocked before Anthony fails to connect with his.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

59 mins

City remain in control but there is a restlessness about them as they approach the hour mark. They likely feel like they should be out of sight.

Doku has a pop from outside the box but it’s never troubling Dubravka.

'City may regret that'

21:16 , Richard Jolly at Turf Moor

Here’s the latest from Richard Jolly, who’s in place at Turf Moor this evening:

“City have now hit both posts and the bar. They may regret that if they don’t hit the back of the net again.”

Burnley 0-1 Man City

55 mins

OFF THE POST! Suddenly Haaland has the chance to all but seal it!

The ball comes from Nunes into Semenyo but he’s tackled and it rolls to Haaland in the area. He takes a touch and looks to squeeze one into the far corner but it comes off the woodwork!

 (AP)

Burnley 0-1 Man City

21:14 , Chris Wilson

53 mins

Another disjointed few minutes in this one, with City now unable to get any rhythm going despite dominating the ball.

Pep Guardiola looks irritated on the sidelines.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

50 mins

An opening for Burnley in the City box but some alert defending from Nunes means they only conceded a corner, which is promptly cleared.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

21:09 , Chris Wilson

49 mins

CHANCE! Semenyo will feel he should have done better there as he latches onto Cherki’s pass before firing over from close range!

The angle was tight but he should be getting that on target.

The hosts give it away in their own defensive third and City almost make them pay as Semenyo gets his shot away in the area, but it’s blocked well.

KICK-OFF! Burnley 0-1 Man City

21:04 , Chris Wilson

Back underway at Turf Moor!

HALF-TIME! Burnley 0-1 Man City

21:00 , Chris Wilson

It’s not been the most entertaining half at Turf Moor, though City have what they came for as it stands after a great goal from Erling Haaland.

A lovely finish from a Doku through ball means City are a goal ahead and as things stand they’re top of the league on goals scored.

Meanwhile, Burnley are heading down if they can’t get anything from this game, and there’s a feeling of resignation around the ground at the moment.

HALF-TIME! Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:49 , Chris Wilson

The referee brings the first half to an end and City head into the break a goal ahead and sitting top of the Premier League table!

Not the best half from Guardiola’s side but they look a threat, and it’ll take a huge effort from the hosts to even get a point in this one.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:47 , Chris Wilson

45 +1 mins

A free-kick comes all the way through to Ekdal at the backc post but City manage to scramble it away for a corner.

The set-piece is swung in by Ward-Prowse but Esteve can’t make anything of it.

'Burnley fans have resigned themselves to relegation'

20:44 , Chris Wilson

Here’s the latest from Richard Jolly, who’s in place at Turf Moor this evening:

“Plenty of empty seats here, even though it is one of the milder nights at Turf Moor and one of the glamour games of Burnley's season.

“But if their fans have resigned themselves to relegation, it is hard to blame them. Those who are here are watching in silence with the noise coming from the City supporters.”

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:44 , Chris Wilson

42 mins

A brilliant through ball releases Doku and his cutback almost finds Haaland, but Esteve was there to clear from his own six-yard box.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:42 , Chris Wilson

41 mins

Burnley lose it in their own half and City look to counter, though Doku can’t make the pass and Walker ends up shepherding the ball out of play.

City will be happy with their lead but you imagine Guardiola will be irritated with some aspects of their first-half display.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:41 , Chris Wilson

38 mins

It’s become a fairly disjointed game as City look for a second while Burnley hope to counter.

City win another corner and it’s one-way traffic at the moment at Turf Moor.

Haaland looks to win a header in the box but he’s penalised for a high arm across the face of the defender.

 (AP)

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:36 , Chris Wilson

35 mins

Cherki escapes a challenge in midfield and Burnley can’t get the ball off him before he almost slips a pass across to Haaland in the area, but it’s cleared.

Moments later, City work another opening in the box as Silva lays it back to Ait-Nouri, but the defender’s shot is well over.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:35 , Chris Wilson

33 mins

All fine as we carry on without incident, though Doku is briefly down before he’s also okay to carry on.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:31 , Chris Wilson

31 mins

Doku wins a corner but Dubravka needs treatment before it’s taken.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:31 , Chris Wilson

30 mins

Half a chance for Burnley again as they counter and Tchaouna plays a lovely ball into the path of Flemming, who’s clean through.

However, the striker’s touch is poor and it takes him wide, giving Khusanov time to recover before it’s blasted over.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:30 , Chris Wilson

29 mins

Superb one-touch play from Cherki allows the Frenchman to pop the ball to O’Reilly at the edge of the box.

He lines up the shot and it tests Dubravka but he’s able to push it to safety.

 (Getty)

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:28 , Chris Wilson

27 mins

A few decent touches in midfield give Burnley a brief opening but they lose the ball soon after. The visitors are beginning to dominate.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:26 , Chris Wilson

25 mins

Lovely move from Semenyo as he rolls Hartman before slipping it through to Silva. His touch is a loose one but he does win a corner.

The ball is swung in from the set-piece and O’Reilly arrives at the far post - he powers a low header towards goal but Dubravka is equal to it!

Moments later, Cherki tests the ‘keeper with a low effort but it’s a tame one.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:24 , Chris Wilson

23 mins

City look adept as ever at keeping the ball, though they won’t get too settled until they get a second.

Burnley have been fairly compact since letting in the opener, though they look vulnerable when the likes of Cherki and Silva get into advanced positions.

 (AP)

'This title race could come down to goal difference'

20:22 , Richard Jolly at Turf Moor

Here’s the latest from Richard Jolly, who’s in place at Turf Moor this evening:

“At the moment, City are going top on goals scored. And while the priority is clearly to win, this title race could come down to goal difference. And this game could be City's best chance to boost theirs, if they are ruthless enough.”

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:21 , Chris Wilson

20 mins

Doku skips effortlessly past Walker and tries to feed Haaland, but his touch comes off the defender.

It rebounds back to Silva but his effort hits Haaland, who had strayed offside by then.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:20 , Chris Wilson

18 mins

Burnley might be behind but they’ve had a couple of good moments in attack, and they’ve certainly given City something to think about.

Nevertheless, they look very vulnerable in defence, with Cherki the latest to force a late block as he shoots from inside the box.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:17 , Chris Wilson

16 mins

What a chance! Walker plays a brilliant ball in behind the City defence and Flemming collects it.

He shows great composure originally to avoid a challenge and put Donnarumma on the floor, but he then drags his shot wide of the far post!

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:16 , Chris Wilson

14 mins

Good feet from Cherki mean he’s able to dig out a cross but Ward-Prowse manages to get it clear.

 (AP)

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:13 , Chris Wilson

11 mins

Burnley have settled a bit in possession but City look so dangerous whenever they win the ball.

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:11 , Richard Jolly at Turf Moor

Here’s the latest from Richard Jolly, who’s in place at Turf Moor this evening:

“Erling Haaland has started four games against Burnley and scored eight goals against them. He will miss them when they are relegated. Although the way Burnley were opened up so easily could be a reason why they will be relegated.”

Burnley 0-1 Man City

20:09 , Chris Wilson

7 mins

CHANCE! Burnley have a decent chance to equalise almost right away, but Hartman can’t quite find the space to get the shot away after a lovely Cruyff turn in the box.

GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Man City (Haaland, 6')

20:08 , Chris Wilson

6 mins

GOAL! Haaland has given City a dream start!

It’s lovely play from Jeremy Doku, who holds it up brilliantly and produces a lovely turn before threading a pass to put Haaland clean through.

The Norwegian races clear and manages to get it out from under his feet to chip a deft finish past the onrushing Dubravka.

Burnley 0-0 Man City

20:06 , Chris Wilson

5 mins

OFF THE POST! What a save this is from Dubravka!

It’s a well-worked opening for City, with Silva eventually cutting it back to Cherki in the box.

The Frenchman is only a few yards out as he looks certain to open the scoring, but his effort is tipped onto the bar by the Burnley ‘keeper!

Burnley 0-0 Man City

20:05 , Chris Wilson

3 mins

And a chance for Burnley at the other end! Tchaouna sweeps it wide to Anthony and he manages to cut back in and test Donnarumma with a curled effort.

Burnley 0-0 Man City

20:03 , Chris Wilson

2 mins

Almost a dream start for City as space opens up in front of Silva and he dibbles into it. He tries to angle a shot at goal but it’s blocked by a flying challenge.

Burnley 0-0 Man City

20:02 , Richard Jolly at Turf Moor

Here’s the latest from Richard Jolly, who’s in place at Turf Moor this evening:

Manchester City can go top for the first time since August. Burnley can go down, which has looked likely since August.

“Pep Guardiola makes one change, but not quite the one expected. We knew Rodri was out, expected Nico Gonzalez to come in but instead Rayan Ait-Nouri does, with Nico O'Reilly moving into midfield.

“Kyle Walker, a title-winning City captain, captains Burnley against City.”

Guardiola: 'We can try and equalise'

19:49 , Chris Wilson

Pep Guardiola has also spoken to Sky ahead of kick-off.

“To arrive in April, sometimes you have to be good in the past. Making April good doesn’t mean [much], but right now Arsenal have been better so far.

“But today we can try and equalise, go onto the same points, and that’s what we have to do,” he adds.

'We want to win'

19:44 , Chris Wilson

“We’ve come with good energy today, and we want to win,” says Antoine Semenyo ahead of kick-off on Sky.

“Every game is a final for us now, so the expectation is to come here and try and win. Obviously it’s going to be difficult, but it’s game by game,” he adds.

Liam Rosenior sacked by Chelsea three months into six-year contract

19:39 , Chris Wilson

Some big news from elsewhere in the Premier League...

Liam Rosenior has been sacked by Chelsea just three months after signing a six-year contract at the Premier League club.

Rosenior, 41, tore into his players following the 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Tuesday and said their performance was “indefensible”. The loss was Chelsea’s fifth in a row in the Premier League without scoring, making it the club’s worst run of league form in 114 years.

Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season, starting with Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds.

No team has won more away points than Man City since the start of December, with their only away loss in that time coming to Man Utd in mid-January. The Cityzens have won 21 points away from home in that time.

Antoine Semenyo has scored in each of his three league games against Burnley, including once already this season for Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland has scored seven goals in just four appearances against the Clarets in all competitions.

Scott Parker says prospect of Burnley relegation has weighed heavily for months

19:22 , Chris Wilson

Burnley could see their relegation from the Premier League confirmed after Wednesday night’s clash against title-chasing Manchester City, but manager Scott Parker admits the prospect has been weighing heavily for months.

All eyes will turn to Turf Moor for a game that could see City replace Arsenal at the top of the table, but the stakes are just as high for the Clarets.

Defeat against Pep Guardiola’s powerhouses would guarantee a return to the Championship, a year on from their 100-point promotion in Parker’s first season.

Why Bernardo Silva deserves to be player of the year after last dance at Man City

19:10 , Richard Jolly

Rayan Cherki had added a goal in the biggest game of the Premier League season to a pair of assists at Stamford Bridge last week. The maverick with the magical touch has shown a productivity. He has a showman’s trickery but he has also made the second most goals in the top flight. He can be framed as the difference-maker, in part because, in a division dominated by set-pieces, few have his creativity in open play, or his joie de vivre.

And yet when Pep Guardiola was asked if his bargain of a signing should be named player of the year, he scoffed. “Come, come,” he said. “He’s so young.” If Guardiola had a vote, either for the PFA or Football Writers’ Association awards, it is safe to say it would be cast for Bernardo Silva. Not just this season, either, as Silva is his man for all seasons. He is his favourite.

Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal underlined why. It had a certain similarity with what may prove the other most significant result of their Premier League campaign. When they beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield, Silva was the best player on the pitch. Ten weeks later, some 30 miles further east, the scoreline was the same. So, too, was the significance of Silva.

Josh Cullen and Connor Roberts remain absent for Burnley due to knee and calf injuries respectively, with Parker hopeful of retaining his side who faced Forest on Sunday.

Man City’s star midfielder Rodri limped off in the closing stages of the win against Arsenal on Sunday with a groin injury and, if not match-fit, Nico Gonzalez could deputise. Otherwise, Pep Guardiola is likely to continue with an in-form starting XI.

Pep Guardiola gives Rodri injury update as Man City bid to chase down Arsenal

18:30 , Chris Wilson

Manchester City face a significant challenge ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash against Burnley, with midfielder Rodri expected to miss out and centre-back Ruben Dias remaining sidelined.

Pep Guardiola confirmed the double injury blow as his side bids to chase down league leaders Arsenal.

Rodri sustained his injury late in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola indicated the 29-year-old Spain international's issue appeared to be groin-related.

City have scored five or more goals in five different Premier League games against Burnley. No side has done so more often against another in the history of the competition.

Pep Guardiola hits back at Wayne Rooney’s ‘stupid’ criticism of Man City celebrations

18:18 , Chris Wilson

Pep Guardiola has defended his Manchester City players against Wayne Rooney’s "stupid" criticism of their post-match celebrations following Sunday's victory over Arsenal.

City will go to Burnley on Wednesday night with the opportunity to go top of the Premier League after beating the Gunners 2-1 in what was effectively a “must-win” game to keep themselves in the title race.

There were exuberant scenes at the final whistle - Gianluigi Donnarumma leapt into the crowd behind his goal and supporters unfurled a banner which read 'Panic on the streets of London', quoting The Smiths, as Arsenal feel the pressure.

What the managers have said

18:12 , Chris Wilson

“We talked immediately after the game, do not lose the focus. Arsenal is top of the league and right now they would be the champions,” said Pep Guardiola in his pre-match press conference.

“The recovery is much less than the last two weeks. It's just two days. That is why I have to see how people are recovering. It's a demanding game we had, both emotionally and physically.

“But at the same time, we have six games left. We know exactly what is going to happen, when we get the result or if we don't get the result,” explained the Catalan.

“Both teams [City & Arsenal] know what happened in the past. Both teams know they cannot lose or drop points. It will be difficult to recover. And our calendar is so demanding, especially when we have a game coming up against an opponent [Everton] that is really, really tough,” he added.

What have the managers said?

18:06 , Chris Wilson

“Having an understanding of where we are and searching for something - I don't think that's a big player in terms of us,” said Burnley boss Scott Parker in his pre-match conference.

“That has been a challenge over the last few months because we haven't managed to pick up results. That burden has been on our shoulders for a long time now. That's where we are.

“It comes down to what the players want as individuals. From my side, as always the driver will be that there are certain things you can control. There are certain traits and habits you can control.

“Not getting a result or the outcome of a performance sometimes you can accept when you fall a little bit short due to many reasons, but one thing you can never fall short on is what you are in control of. That has to be a mainstay and that will be the message,” added the former England midfielder.

Rodri injury hands Man City huge concern ahead of Premier League run-in

18:00 , Richard Jolly

Rodri has given Manchester City an injury worry for the title race after limping off in their 2-1 win over Arsenal.

The Ballon d’Or winner has a groin problem, which will be examined on Sunday or Monday, as Pep Guardiola waits to discover the extent of the damage.

Rodri, who was replaced by Nico Gonzalez when he went off in the 88th minute, has found his best form of the season in recent weeks as City have recorded four straight wins in all competitions.

How Erling Haaland inspired Man City to a massive momentum shift over Arsenal

17:48 , Richard Jolly

Here’s the report from a potentially pivotal afternoon at the Etihad as City beat Arsenal last time out...

The league table never lies, apparently. It may do now. A supposed title decider ended with the side still in second nevertheless possessing the advantage. It has been Arsenal’s title to lose for months, but perhaps this defeat means it is being lost.

They had retreated down the tunnel at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City went on their lap of honour, a bare-chested Erling Haaland letting his hair run free, Pep Guardiola directing kisses to the crowd, Gianluigi Donnarumma beating the badge on his chest, relieved the biggest error of his season had become a footnote, not the faulty footwork that determined the destination of the trophy.

This, perhaps, was what Arsenal feared. Second best against City in the Carabao Cup final, they will be second behind them on Wednesday, if Guardiola’s team beat Burnley. “It is a new league now,” admitted Mikel Arteta.

How Erling Haaland inspired Man City to a massive momentum shift over Arsenal

Should Gabriel have seen red card for Haaland ‘headbutt’?

17:42 , Mike Jones

In the 83rd minute of Arsenal’s clash with Man City, there was another flash point between Gabriel and Haaland after the former made a foul from behind and the striker pushed the defender away from him when he got back to his feet.

Gabriel reacted by putting his head towards Haaland’s and they stood for a moment with their foreheads touching. But Gabriel then made a second movement and pushed his head towards Haaland’s for a second time. Haaland did not respond, as team-mates from both sides broke them up, but Gabriel was extremely fortunate that Haaland did not go down as it would likely have ended up as a red card for violent conduct.

With a title race that is this close, however, Gabriel staying on the pitch and avoiding a three-game ban for violent conduct could be crucial. “He can thank Haaland a lot, Gabriel, for not going down and holding his nose,” Gary Neville said on Sky Sports.

Haaland admitted as much after the match, telling Sky Sports that he could have made more out of the contact but chose not to. “If I fell on the floor there, which I will not do unless someone really attacks me, then it would maybe be red card,” Haaland said.

Erling Haaland’s ripped shirt symbolises Man City’s win

17:36 , Jamie Braidwood

Three years ago it was the sight of Erling Haaland’s long hair flowing behind him as he celebrated the final goal of Manchester City’s thumping 4-1 over Arsenal that summed up how Pep Guardiola’s side had ripped apart Mikel Arteta’s challengers. Three years later, the sight of Haaland’s ripped undershirt, following his latest grappling duel with Gabriel Magalhaes, that symbolised another defining victory.

City were not rampant this time. Arsenal went away from that bruising defeat in April 2023 and returned stronger, both physically and mentally. And yet, Haaland was still able to hold off Arsenal’s biggest and most important defender as he fired the winning goal to settle a colossal clash. Following Jeremy Doku’s surge into the box and Nico O’Reilly’s flick across goal, Haaland pounced on the chance as he held off Gabriel to volley in. In a fascinating tactical duel, City had the muscle to take a step closer to the title.

At full-time, Haaland could be seen pointing his ear and singing, “Ooooh, sometimes, I get a good feeling”. He’s been in this race before.

Manchester City defeated Arsenal to take control of the Premier League title race following an enthralling showdown at the Etihad.

Erling Haaland scored the winner in the 65th minute to settle a thrilling contest after the Gunners went agonisingly close to taking the lead.

Burnley vs Man City

17:00 , Mike Jones

Manchester City have the chance to go top of the Premier League as they take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

Burnley look set to be relegated in the coming weeks and spurned a lead at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, eventually losing 4-1 at the City Ground. Scott Parker’s side are 12 points off safety with five games remaining.

As for City, their massive 2-1 win over title rivals Arsenal puts them three points behind the table-topping Gunners. Yet just one goal behind on goal-difference - and with more goals scored - any victory on Wednesday will take them to the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola’s side thrashed Burnley 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium back in September, with Erling Haaland scoring twice. The Norwegian is currently the Premier League’s top scorer with 23 goals this season and is on a high after his match-winner against Arsenal on Sunday.

Good afternoon!
