Bursa Malaysia remains higher at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 ― Bursa Malaysia stayed in positive territory at mid-afternoon, lifted by persistent buying in selected heavyweights, led by financial services stocks.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.90 points firmer at 1,445.35 from yesterday’s close of 1,443.45.

The index opened 0.66 of a point easier at 1,442.79.

On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 503 to 323, while 458 counters were unchanged, 1,104 untraded and 12 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.14 billion units worth RM1.09 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank and Public Bank added one sen each to RM8.88 and RM4.19, respectively, CIMB gained two sen to RM5.56, while Tenaga Nasional fell two sen to RM10.12 and Petronas Chemicals lost four sen to RM7.28.

Among the actives, Evergreen Max Cash increased eight sen to 32 sen, Metronic and KNM rose half-a-sen each to 2.0 sen and 12.5 sen, respectively.

Meanwhile, MQ Technology and Parkson were flat at 3.0 sen and 32.5 sen, respectively.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index widened 7.04 points to 10,711.91, the FBMT 100 Index improved 9.15 points to 10,374.62, the FBM Emas Shariah Index went up 1.51 points to 10,964.80.

The FBM ACE Index contracted 15.46 points to 5,172.42 and the FBM 70 Index inched down 6.95 points to 14,277.25.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index strengthened by 11.27 points to 6,916.47 and the Financial Services Index advanced by 15.50 points to 16,198.15.

The Energy Index, meanwhile, declined by 3.26 points to 892.89 and the Industrial Products Services Index eased by 0.41 of a point to 173.77. ― Bernama
