KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 ― Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-afternoon weighed by selling in selected heavyweights in tandem with the weaker trend seen in regional bourses, dealers said.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) declined 3.77 points to 1,456.30 from 1,460.07 at yesterday’s close.

The key index opened 0.53 of a point easier at 1,459.54 this morning.

The broader market was negative with decliners outpacing gainers 476 to 297 while 438 counters were unchanged, 1,112 untraded and seven others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.69 billion units worth RM1.05 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank and Public Bank shed two sen each to RM9.15 and RM4.23, respectively, CIMB fell five sen to RM5.69 while Petronas Chemicals and TNB added one sen each to RM7.18 and RM9.88, respectively.

Of the actives, Classita slipped one sen to seven sen, JAKS Resources eased half a sen to 21 sen while Widad Group increased one sen to 47.5 sen and Ekovest advanced 2.5 sen to 53 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 37.82 points lower at 10,736.98, the FBM 70 Index shed 83.07 points to 14,154.62, the FBM Emas Shariah Index gave up 43.34 points to 10,906.70, the FBM ACE Index trimmed 19.76 points to 5,168.81 and the FBMT 100 Index fell 35.29 points to 10,412.61.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index slid 0.47 of a point to 172.65, the Plantation Index trimmed 19.82 points to 6,879.13, the Energy Index reduced 5.73 points to 858.76 and the Financial Services Index erased 54.46 points to 16,417.74. ― Bernama
