BURSA Malaysia Bhd has confirmed that all its platforms are once again fully operational following a global outage at Cloudflare that left numerous Malaysian websites inaccessible on Tuesday.
In a late-night update posted on its X account at 11.34pm, the exchange operator reported that normal service had resumed after Cloudflare resolved the underlying technical issue.
“The Cloudflare issue has been resolved and services are fully restored. Our services are back to normal. We appreciate your patience and understanding during the downtime,” it said.
The disruption, which Bursa Malaysia earlier attributed to Cloudflare’s service degradation, affected access to several local websites, including news portals.
Cloudflare, a major global internet infrastructure and security provider, experienced a significant internal service failure that began to ease on Tuesday after preventing thousands of users worldwide from reaching major online platforms, including X, ChatGPT and many local news portals , some of which was offline for over five hours.
Reuters reported on Tuesday that the company, whose network carries roughly one-fifth of global web traffic, said it began investigating the problem at around 6.40am ET. Although a fix has been deployed, Cloudflare cautioned that some users may continue to face issues while systems fully recover.
This latest incident follows a series of major disruptions to online services. Only last month, an outage at Amazon’s cloud division caused extensive global disruption, rendering platforms such as Snapchat and Reddit temporarily inaccessible.
Cloudflare, whose shares fell around 5 per cent in pre-market trading, operates one of the world’s most extensive networks designed to accelerate and safeguard websites by mitigating traffic surges and cyberattacks. Tuesday’s failure triggered tens of thousands of outage reports globally and temporarily blocked access to platforms including Canva, X, Grindr and ChatGPT. Downdetector data showed issue reports peaking near 5,000 before subsiding to around 600 by 8am ET.
Downdetector compiles outage information from multiple sources, though its figures reflect user-submitted reports and may not capture the full scale of the disruption.
“We saw a spike in unusual traffic to one of Cloudflare’s services beginning at 11:20 UTC. That caused some traffic passing through Cloudflare’s network to experience errors,” the company said in an emailed statement. “We are all hands on deck to make sure all traffic is served without errors.”
X and OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. - November 19, 2025
