Bursa Malaysia stays higher at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 ― Bursa Malaysia remained higher at midmorning, supported by buying interest in selected heavyweights, especially transportation and logistics stocks.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) climbed up 3.59 points to 1,492.25 from yesterday's close of 1,488.66.

The market bellwether opened 0.6 point weaker at 1,488.05.

Market breadth was positive with gainers leading decliners 361 to 305, while 402 counters were unchanged, 1,134 untraded, and 20 others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 1.53 billion units worth RM646.00 million.

Among the heavyweights, MISC Bhd added seven sen to RM7.32 while Maybank and CIMB added three sen each to RM8.83 and RM5.78, respectively. Tenaga Nasional ticked up four sen to RM9.44 and Sime Darby widened two sen to RM2.29.

As for the actives, Serba Dinamik and Velesto Energy were up half-a-sen each to 1.5 sen and 16.5 sen respectively while Nationgate bagged four sen to RM1.04. Zen Tech International perked up one sen to 3.5 sen while Vinvest Capital shed two sen to 18.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 32.80 points to 10,775.56, the FBMT 100 Index added 31.10 points to 10,472.18 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index garnered 30.74 points to 10,975.59. The FBM 70 Index went up 65.40 points to 13,406.87 while the FBM ACE Index slipped 3.51 points to 5,425.12.

Sector-wise, the Transportation and Logistics Index garnered 20.13 points to 930.80, the Financial Services Index climbed 49.61 points to 16,587.30 and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 0.58 point to 184.39. The Energy Index improved by 3.37 points to 819.64.
