Bursa Malaysia stays higher at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning on renewed buying interest amid improved sentiment across the board.

At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 5.64 points to 1,428.23 from Friday's close of 1,422.59. The index opened 4.18 points higher at 1,426.77.

Market breadth was positive as gainers surpassed decliners 487 to 222, while 323 counters were unchanged, 1,194 untraded and 32 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.26 billion units worth RM520.16 million.

Among the heavyweights, Petronas Chemicals gained 16 sen to RM7.23, MR DIY and Press Metal added five sen each to RM1.60 and RM4.92, respectively, Public Bank rose two sen to RM4.02 and Hong Leong Financial went up 28 sen to RM18.26.

As for the actives, MMAG and Pesona Metro stayed flat at two sen and 25.5 sen, respectively, Vinvest increased three sen to 23 sen, and Velesto Energy added one sen to 22 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index increased 58.80 points to 10,478.43, the FBMT 100 Index rose 53.43 points to 10,167.46, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index advanced 67.17 points to 10,783.60.

The FBM 70 Index went up 126.33 points to 13,638.71 and the FBM ACE Index was 57.72 points better at 5,284.52.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index grew 52.69 points to 15,761.39, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 1.67 points to 172.75, the Plantation Index firmed 35.95 points to 6,777.23, and the Energy Index advanced 27.61 points to 864.42. — Bernama
