Bursa Malaysia stays higher at mid-morning on buying support

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 ― Bursa Malaysia maintained its positive momentum at mid-morning today, supported by buying in selected heavyweights, led by the technology and plantation counters.

Heavyweight plantation counters Kuala Lumpur Kepong rose by 50 sen to RM21.40, Sime Darby Plantation and IOI Corporation added 10 sen each to RM4.36 and RM3.83, respectively, and technology counter, Inari Amerton improved by 14 sen to RM2.80.

Altogether, these counters pushed the composite index up by a combined 3.04 points.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose by 3.89 points to 1,492.69 from yesterday's closing of 1,488.80.

The market bellwether opened two points better at 1,490.80.

Market breadth was positive with gainers surpassing losers 564 to 311, while 339 counters were unchanged, 1,019 untraded and 14 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.66 billion units worth RM896.58 million.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank gained one sen to RM8.64 and Public Bank increased two sen to RM4.52, while Petronas Chemicals eased one sen to RM8.53, Tenaga fell six sen to RM9.36 and CIMB was flat at RM5.80.

Of the actives, Green Packet gained one sen to 6.5 sen, Infomina added 15.5 sen to 73.5 sen and Leform rose 2.5 sen to 21 sen, while MQ Technology was flat at five sen and Advance Synergy deducted one sen to 18 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index increased 54.51 points to 10,688.21, the FBMT 100 Index climbed 50.31 points to 10,402.57, the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 64.64 points to 10,847.73, the FBM 70 rose 155.52 points to 13,006.61, and the FBM ACE garnered 43.93 points to 5,255.08.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index advanced by 46.89 points to 16,670.23, the Plantation Index lifted 74.46 points to 6,802.23 and the Energy Index gained 10.68 points to 778.19, while the Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 0.30 of-a-point to 181.73. ― Bernama
