Bursa Malaysia turns lower at mid-morning on profit taking

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 ― Bursa Malaysia turned lower at mid-morning as profit-taking emerged in selected heavyweights, led by CelcomDigi and Public Bank.

At 11.08am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid 7.97 points to 1,430.15 from yesterday’s closing of 1,438.12.

On the broader market, decliners beat gainers 333 to 297, while 432 counters were unchanged, 1,306 untraded and 13 suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.19 billion units worth RM555.72 million.

Among the Bursa heavyweights, CelcomDigi lost seven sen to RM4.13, Public Bank shed four sen to RM4.12 and Press Metal slipped nine sen to RM4.77, while Maybank and CIMB lost four sen to RM8.95 and RM5.62, respectively.

Of the actives, Metronic and Kinergy eased half-a-sen to 1.5 sen and 32.5 sen, respectively, Widad slid six sen to 47.5 sen, Tanco and Meta Bright were unchanged at 58 sen and 26 sen, respectively, while Revenue Group added 1.5 sen to 22.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 35.67 points weaker at 10,542.14, the FBMT 100 Index decreased 37.48 points to 10,223.97, the FBM Emas Shariah Index erased 27.15 points to 10,770.02 and the FBM ACE Index was 2.56 points lower at 5,022.14, while the FBM 70 Index gained 34.30 points to 13,889.11.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 0.04 of-a-point to 170.29, while the Plantation Index erased 32.02 points to 6,841.59, the Energy Index eased 0.69 of-a-point to 867.25 and the Financial Services Index gave up 87.36 points to 16,116.46. ― Bernama
