Bursa opens higher on buying interest in energy stocks

KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia opened on a positive note today, driven by buying interest in energy stocks amid positive regional market sentiment, a dealer said.

At 9.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI pushed up 6.79 points to 1,496.59 from yesterday’s close of 1,489.80.

The benchmark index opened 2.78 points firmer at 1,492.58.

On the broader market, gainers led decliners 164 to 86, while 182 counters were unchanged, 1,842 untraded, and seven others suspended.

Turnover stood at 73.37 million units worth RM34.36 million.

The ringgit rebounded from yesterday’s loss to open slightly higher against the US dollar today amid mixed sentiment as traders remained cautious ahead of Bank Negara Malaysia’s upcoming two-day monetary policy committee meeting starting tomorrow, an analyst said.

At 9.01am, the local currency advanced to 4.4860/4895 against the greenback from yesterday’s close of 4.4900/4940. – Bernama, September 6, 2022
