A 55-year-old bus driver with 29 traffic summonses was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving, causing a three-vehicle accident at kilometre (KM) 16 of Jalan Genting Highlands, yesterday.
Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, said police received a report regarding the incident at 5.09 pm involving two tour buses and a Perodua Aruz multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on its way to the capital.
"Upon arrival at the scene, the first bus is believed to have lost control at a bend and crashed into the back of a Perodua Aruz before crashing into the back of another sightseeing bus.
"As a result of the collision, the second tour bus lost control and skidded and overturned on the left shoulder of the road, while the first bus skidded onto the right side of the road," he said.
According to him, the tour buses involved were carrying 38 and 36 passengers respectively, including the bus driver who was taking foreign workers from an electronics factory in Selangor on their way home after a holiday in Genting Highlands.
He said initial investigations found that the accident was caused by the 55-year-old driver of the first tour bus, who was believed to have driven recklessly until he lost control.
"The case is currently being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The bus driver was detained for investigation, and a urine screening test was conducted, which found negative results.
"A check also found that the bus driver had 29 traffic summonses for various offences," he said.
Zaiham said no casualties were reported in the accident, but five bus passengers, consisting of three Bangladeshis and two Nepalis, as well as a local citizen, the passenger of the Perodua Aruz, suffered minor injuries.
He said all six injured victims were taken to the Selayang Hospital and the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for further treatment. – May 31, 2026
