MANILA, Philippines — A business group called on the Senate to resume its duties, saying, "The nation cannot move forward if one of its most important democratic institutions remains at a standstill."
"Without them, bills cannot move and oversight cannot proceed," The Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines said in a statement on Tuesday night.
"At a time when public confidence in institutions is essential, the Senate must return to the work of governance. The nation cannot move forward if one of its most important democratic institutions remains at a standstill," the business group added.
The majority bloc, led by Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, boycotted the regular sessions on June 1 and 2 to protest Sen. Jinggoy Estrada's arrest over plunder charges related to his alleged involvement in the flood control fund scandal.
