In response to the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, anti-American sentiment has been growing among Chinese businesses. These tariffs, which have reached as high as 145% on Chinese goods, have sparked a wave of patriotic fervor and retaliatory measures across China.
According to the South China Morning Post, various establishments such as restaurants, bars, billiard rooms, and jewelry stores have started displaying signs announcing special service fees for American customers.
One such sign, spotted outside a barbecue beef restaurant in Wuhan, China, stated:
“Effective immediately, our store will impose a 104% service fee on American customers. For any inquiries, please contact the US embassy.”
Several other Chinese businesses have also announced they will impose service fees equivalent to the tariffs on Chinese goods.
A banner outside an eyewear center in China indicates that US customers will be charge a 125% service fee. Meanwhile, some businesses have pledged to stop selling American products altogether.
A shoe manufacturer declared it would cease working with its American partners, with the owner stating he would “rather take a loss on these goods than ship them over” out of patriotism.
On social media, mobile phone resellers were seen removing iPhones from their shelves.
“Tariff, tariff, every day adding tariffs. I am not going to sell American phones!” one reseller commented.
