Business name filings up 33.27% in April

BUSINESS name registrations with the Department of Trade and Industry expanded by 33.27 percent in April.

Data from DTI’s Business Name Registration System (BNRS) released on Monday showed the numbers reached 79,099 compared to 59,352 in April 2025.

Of the total, 70,263 were new registrations, while 8,836 were renewals.

Majority of business names at 68,846 were registered online, while hybrid registrations totaled 9,210.

Wholesale and retail trade accounted for the largest share at 41,099 registrations. The sector includes motor vehicles and motorcycle repair, as well as personal and household goods.

Accommodation and food services ranked second with 11,103 registrations, followed by manufacturing (4,583), real estate activities (3,948) and transportation and storage (3,327).

By location, Region 4A (Calabarzon) ranked first with 14,117 registrations, followed by Metro Manila (13,041), Region 3 (Central Luzon) with 11,638), Region 1 (Ilocos Region) with 4,118 and Region 7 (Central Visayas) with 4,112.

From January to April, business names increased by 10.55 percent to 543,534 from 491,683 filings in the same period last year.

In 2025, the business name filings fell by 4 percent to 1.02 million from 1.06 million in the prior year.

Introduced in 2019, the DTI BNRS was streamlined and rolled out in 2023.
