​Business name registrations up 4.82% in H1

BUSINESS name registrations with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) rose by 4.82 percent in the first half (H1) of the year, despite a sharp decline in June.

Data from the DTI’s Business Name Registration System (BNRS) showed the figures at 659,747 from January to June, up from 629,405 a year earlier.Of the total, 558,245 were new registrations and 101,502 were renewals.However, the numbers in June alone fell by 48.25 percent to 37,041 from 71,578 a year earlier.Most registrations were filed online, totaling 550,333, while 101,595 were submitted through the hybrid system.Wholesale and retail trade, including motor vehicle and motorcycle repair, accounted for the largest share with 369,919 registrations. It was followed by accommodation and food services (89,232), real estate (36,524), manufacturing (34,146) and other service activities (27,330).By region, Calabarzon record​ed the highest number at 116,830, followed by Central Luzon (88,006), Metro Manila (85,021), Ilocos Region (38,777) and Central Visayas (34,923).The figures dropped 4 percent in 2025 to 1.02 million from 1.06 million a year earlier.The BNRS was introduced in 2019 and streamlined in 2023.
