KOTA KINABALU: Chee Chi Nyen, 48, was charged in Sessions Court with four counts of cheating involving RM12 million linked to a supposed 45pc shareholding in Deevin Development Sdn Bhd.
Chee allegedly induced 76-year-old See Hong Cheen to hand over RM9 million via cheque on Aug 30, 2022, and another RM3 million through three separate cheques in April 2022.
The offences were allegedly committed alongside a co-accused previously charged.
The charges, under Section 420 of the Penal Code read with Section 34, carry penalties of one to 10 years’ imprisonment, whipping, and fines.
The court set April 6 for case management and granted Chee RM1 million bail, with RM500,000 in cash and two local sureties.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Faizah Mohd Salleh, Rohaiza Abd Rahman, and Eugenie Meredith Gilbert represented the prosecution, while Zahir Shah defended Chee.
