A BUSINESSMAN has suffered losses exceeding RM1 million after falling prey to a non-existent investment scheme that promised lucrative returns, according to Nilai District Police Chief, Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim.
The 50-year-old victim lodged a police report at 4.22pm on Monday, stating that he had been duped into investing through an online platform introduced to him by an individual on 29 April.
“He was interested in the investment offer as it promised substantial profits and was instructed to download an application called ‘CDT MAX’ onto his mobile phone,” Abdul Malik said in a statement.
The victim subsequently transferred a total of RM1,449,750 into seven different bank accounts via 15 transactions, believing the funds were part of the investment process.
However, suspicion arose when he was asked to make additional payments in order to withdraw the purported profits, leading him to realise he had been scammed.
“The Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Nilai District Police Headquarters has opened an investigation paper under Section 420 of the Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspect,” Abdul Malik added.
He also advised the public to verify any investment opportunities with the relevant authorities before participating and to avoid sharing banking information with unknown individuals. - July 22, 2025
