
FORCED to work overtime, often beaten and paid for the past two months were among the bitter experiences by two Indonesian domestic workers before they were rescued by police in a raid at a residence in Kayangan Heights in Shah Alam, yesterday.
Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Anak Embol said the two women were suspected of being victims of human trafficking involving forced labour exploitation.
"Acting on information, a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters (IPD) conducted a raid at about 2.30 pm at a house in the area in question.
"Following an inspection, police rescued two Indonesian women, aged 48 and 33, respectively," he said as reported by Sinar Harian.
He said that interviews revealed that one victim had worked for two years while the other had worked for a month with the same employer.
"Both victims claimed that their mobile phones and passports were confiscated, they were forced to work overtime, often beaten and had not been paid their salaries for the past two months.
"Following that, the police arrested two local women, one of whom is a businesswoman and influencer, along with her daughter, believed to be the victim's employer," he said.
According to him, the two suspects, who are in their late 50s and early 30s respectively, were remanded for three days for further investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 13(a) of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007.
