BUTTERWORTH Air Base in Pulau Pinang is set to benefit from high-speed internet access through the ongoing Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) initiative under the national Perajurit Broadband programme.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil visited the base on 14 September 2025 to inspect the progress of installations at the Rumah Keluarga Angkatan Tentera (RKAT), military family quarters that are being equipped with enhanced internet connectivity.
“Butterworth is among the priority sites in Cluster 1 (Northern Region),” said the minister, noting that the initiative is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) on 11 October 2024.
In total, the project will involve 73 military camps across the country and provide access to more than 59,000 RKAT units. The implementation is being carried out under the Universal Service Provision (DUSP) programme, with Stealth Solutions overseeing Part 1 and TM Technologies Services managing Part 2 of the rollout.
Military personnel and their families will be able to subscribe to the Perajurit Broadband package, offering 100Mbps at RM49 per month, with an introductory rate of RM39 for the first six months.
“This initiative is in line with the MADANI vision to ensure no community is left behind in Malaysia’s digital transformation,” Fahmi said. “It will support the education of children, enhance quality of life and strengthen the wellbeing of military families.”
The MCMC has committed to continued oversight of the project to ensure compliance with delivery standards and maximum benefit for the armed forces community.
Also present during the visit were Ministry of Communications Secretary-General Dato’ Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and MCMC Managing Director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.
