The updated BYD Atto 3 EV SUV was recently spotted in China, featuring some minor design tweaks.

The facelifted BYD Atto 3 was recently spotted roaming around the streets in China ahead of its planned debut later this year. According to CarNewsChina, not only does the updated Atto 3 get an updated exterior, but this EV SUV will also benefit from several equipment upgrades and changes, including for its ADAS suite.

Starting with the visual updates, from the spied photos we can see that the Atto 3 gets a redesigned front face featuring a new front bumper design that integrates a pair of side vents and a larger central intake. The redesigned front end is complemented by a slightly tweaked rear end, which gets a new decorative diffuser and a larger roof-mounted rear wing with two vertical brake lights.

What’s also new on this spied Atto 3 facelift is the new beige hue it comes with, which we believe is taken from its smaller twin, the BYD Yuan Up (also known as the Atto 2). Topping off the visual upgrades are the new decorative chrome strips on the side skirts.

Besides the obvious design upgrades, CarNewsChina also pointed out that the facelifted Atto 3 will come with a new camera system, which possibly hints at the upgrades for its driver assistance system. Should this be true, this could be BYD’s response to the poor ADAS scores awarded to the Atto 3 from Euro NCAP.

Prior to this, the facelifted Atto 3 was recently sighted on a Chinese government filing website, which reveals that the updated model won’t get any powertrain or battery upgrades over its predecessor. This means that the updated Atto 3 will continue to underpin BYD’s proprietary e-Platform 3.0 instead of the upgraded e-Platform 3.0 Evo currently used on the 2025 MY BYD Seal EV saloon.

Unlike the Atto 3’s 400-volt architecture, the upgraded e-Platform 3.0 Evo gets an 800-volt architecture that provides faster charging speeds over its predecessor.

With the facelifted BYD Atto 3 already spotted doing tests on public roads in China, we can expect the updated EV SUV to make its official debut sooner or later, with CarNewsChina hinting that the 2025 model might arrive as early as Q2 this year. Given that the 2024 MY version currently retails from CNY 116,800 (RM72,130) onwards, we can expect the facelifted Atto 3 to get a slightly higher price tag, given the list of upgrades granted by BYD to this beloved EV SUV.
