BYD Sealion 7 EV Launched In Malaysia: Priced From RM184K

BYD Malaysia has launched the Sealion 7 EV — a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y.

The BYD Sealion 7 was open for booking more than a week ago for RM1,000. Now we have full specification and pricing details. Malaysia is the first market in the Asia Pacific region to get the Sealion 7.

There are 2 variants of the BYD Sealion 7 on offer in Malaysia. The Premium model has a single-motor mounted to the rear axle with an output of 230kW and 380Nm of torque. Its acceleration to 100km/h is 6.7 seconds. The rated range is 567km and the price is RM183,800. Making it very competitive against the Tesla Model Y.

The Performance variant has all wheel drive with a total motor output of 390kW and 690Nm of torque enabling a century sprint time of 4.5 seconds. This model had a lower 542km range and the price is RM199,800.

Both models feature the same 82.5kWh LFP Blade battery and the rating system used is NEDC, so take the rated range with a pinch of salt.

The Sealion 7 has 11kW AC charging and 150kW DC fast charging. It also features Vehicle to Load charging.

In terms of measurements, the BYD Sealion 7 is 4,830 mm long with a 2,930 mm wheelbase, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall. You can think of the Sealion 7 as a crossover version of the BYD Seal, which had proven to be an extremely popular electric sedan in Malaysia. It shares a lot of similar design cues, including its headlight and taillight shapes, and oversized rear diffuser apron.

Inside, the BYD Sealion 7 has a 10.25” digital instrument cluster and a 15.6” infotainment system that rotates, and this controls most vehicle functions and sends audio through a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system. It also gets a 50” augmented reality heads-up display.

You’ll also find Nappa leather and a panoramic sunroof. Other standard features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Detection. There’s also a 360-degree parking camera.

The BYD Sealion 7 is available in Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey and Shark Grey. The early bird promo throws in a free home charger and RM800 in charging credits for those who register this year. The vehicle warranty is for 6 years/150,000km, while the drive unit warranty is for 8 years/150,000km and the battery warranty is for 8 years/160,000km.
