The Fang Cheng Bao Ti 9 can travel 310km on pure electric power, which is impressive for a PHEV.

BYD’s specialized sub-brand, Fang Cheng Bao, has officially revealed its flagship Ti 9 (also filed under Chinese regulatory listings as the Tai 9). Positioned as a full-size six-seater plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV, the Ti 9 serves as the halo model for Fang Cheng Bao’s family-focused “Ti” urban crossover series, sitting above the smaller Ti 3 and Ti 7 offerings.

Combining a massive 66.48 kWh battery pack with dual-motor all-wheel-drive capability, the Ti 9 is engineered to challenge high-end luxury rivals such as the Li Auto L9, Aito M9, and Denza N9 in China’s competitive full-size SUV segment.

Extensive Proportions and Modern Exterior Styling

The Ti 9 adopts a commanding presence characterized by clean surfacing and a boxy, upright silhouette designed to maximize interior volume across three rows of seats:

  • Dimensions: Measures 5,270 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,850 mm (or 1,880 mm depending on suspension setup) in height, anchored by a generous 3,130 mm wheelbase.
  • Seating Layout: Configured strictly in a 2+2+2 six-seat arrangement, featuring individual captain’s chairs in the second row for enhanced executive comfort.
  • Key Design Features: Outfitted with an active front air intake grille, a continuous full-width front LED light bar, a roof-mounted LiDAR module, and a split “Tiandi Gate” (Heaven and Earth) dual-tier opening tailgate.
  • Wheel Options: Buyers can choose between 21-inch or 22-inch alloy wheels wrapped in performance touring rubber.

DMS Platform, Dual-Motor Powertrain, and 310 km Pure Electric Range

Debuting BYD’s new DMS platform, the Ti 9 couples an efficient combustion engine with high-output electric motors and a massive high-voltage battery system:

  • Engine: A 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine delivering 110 kW max net power (115 kW gross) acting primarily as a high-efficiency generator and high-speed cruise power source.
  • Electric Motors: Dual permanent-magnet synchronous motors positioned on the front and rear axles—each producing a peak output of 200 kW (268 hp)—to form an intelligent electronic all-wheel-drive system.
  • Performance Capabilities: Top speed is electronically governed at 220 km/h, with an optional retractable electric tow hook enabling a certified towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg.
  • Blade Battery Pack: Houses a massive 66.48 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) FinDreams Blade Battery pack, enabling an exceptional pure electric driving range of 310 km (CLTC cycle) without engaging the petrol engine.

Tech-Forward Cabin and Autonomous Driving Hardware

Inside, the Ti 9 offers a digital-first environment geared toward family luxury. The dashboard features a full-width continuous glass panel integrating the driver instrument cluster, central infotainment, and front passenger entertainment displays. Rear passengers gain access to independent multimedia screens and a premium multi-speaker Devialet sound system.

On the safety and automated driving front, the flagship SUV comes standard with the DiPilot 300 (“God’s Eye”) driver assistance suite. Powered by the roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, high-definition cameras, and millimeter-wave radar, the system supports advanced Highway and Urban Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) functionality.

Will the Fang Cheng Bao Ti 9 Reach Malaysia as a Denza?

While Fang Cheng Bao operates as a distinct standalone brand in mainland China, its global distribution strategy takes a completely different turn for international right-hand-drive (RHD) markets—including Southeast Asia.

To streamline its global presence under a single established luxury banner, BYD has begun rebadging and exporting Fang Cheng Bao products under the Denza brand name for overseas markets. For instance, the off-road Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 is marketed globally as the Denza B5 (or Denza Bao 5), while the larger Bao 8 moves under the Denza B8 nameplate.

In Malaysia, BYD’s luxury push is anchored by Denza, which launched its presence in the market with the premium Denza D9 EV/PHEV MPV. Given that BYD is actively building out Denza’s luxury showroom network across Malaysia and Southeast Asia, bringing in new sub-brands like Fang Cheng Bao directly would create unnecessary brand fragmentation.

Therefore, if this full-size flagship PHEV SUV receives a green light for right-hand-drive production, Malaysian car buyers will likely see it land on local shores rebadged under the Denza lineup—potentially as a luxury SUV offering alongside the Denza D9 and Denza N9.
