CAAP demands AirAsia Philippines settle outstanding fees by June 6

MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Wednesday gave AirAsia Philippines until June 6, 2026, to settle its outstanding financial obligations.

The authority said the agency and the airline have been in discussions on this matter since last year.

AirAsia Philippines has an outstanding debt spanning from 2021 to May 2026. This amount covers air navigation charges, aircraft landing and parking fees, and passenger service charges, excluding pending penalties and interest.

Despite this, the airline continues to operate normally and uninterrupted across all CAAP-managed airports.

The aviation regulator explained that any interruption in airline operations carries significant consequences, including economic impacts, potential employment displacement, and disruption to passenger and cargo services. "Accordingly, the settlement of the obligations remains the most practical and preferred course of action."

It added that it continues to coordinate closely with airlines regarding their financial obligations to the authority to ensure full regulatory compliance and the orderly conduct of airport and aviation operations.

"CAAP remains firmly committed to upholding aviation safety, ensuring operational continuity, and maintaining regulatory compliance, while continuing to engage constructively with all stakeholders," CAAP said in a statement.
