A recent video shared by a Facebook user shows a flight passenger at the back of the plane, with 2 cabin crew members desperately trying to restrain her.

The Fiji Police confirmed the incident, saying the 69-year-old passenger was “intoxicated and causing a nuisance.” In the video, she can also be heard yelling racist slurs and vulgarities, which left the cabin crew no choice but to restrain her and tape her mouth shut.

“Her behaviour continued throughout the flight”

A witness named Allan (pseudonym), told News.com.au that things escalated about halfway into the 11-hour flight to Nadi when the woman started raising her voice.

“Passengers and crew quickly found out during the incident that the woman was travelling with her husband, although they were seated in separate parts of the plane. At one point, she even slapped a flight attendant’s hand,” he shared.

According to Allan, the woman’s husband asked to be moved to another seat when she started getting loud. The situation worsened when the crew refused to tell her where he had been relocated, which led to an argument.

“The crew ended up moving her to the back of the plane, but her abusive behaviour continued for the rest of the flight,” he said.

The woman was arrested and charged

When the flight landed, Fiji law enforcement was already waiting for the woman, and she was taken into custody.

She was charged with 1 count of being an unruly passenger and brought before the Nadi Magistrate Court. Bail was set at $345 (approximately RM1,507.65), and a stop-departure order was issued against her.

“She appeared in court on Thursday (January 23), received the penalty, and returned yesterday (January 24) to pay her fine. The stop departure has since been lifted, and the case is now closed,” said a spokesperson for Fiji police.
