Kota Kinabalu: The State Cabinet has instructed the Sabah Water Department to proceed with proposals for corporatising the water supply sector as part of efforts to improve management.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the move would begin with the appointment of a consultant with expertise in operating a water business.

He said the consultant would prepare a package of proposals for Cabinet consideration, adding that the timeline would depend on how quickly the work is completed.

Masidi, who spoke after representing the Chief Minister at the Jesselton Docklands groundbreaking on Friday, also suggested that the State budget sitting be held after the State elections.

He further expressed hope that the 2026 National Budget, to be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 10, would include allocations for Sabah’s infrastructure and incentives for urban renewal.
