THE recent cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday is not intended as a wholesale political reset, but rather as a strategic measure to enhance government efficiency, improve administrative performance, and boost public confidence in the MADANI Government amid an increasingly challenging phase of governance.
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Seremban, Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies Senior Lecturer Dr. Mazlan Che Soh said the reshuffle demonstrates the Prime Minister’s commitment to consolidating the coalition government while ensuring the MADANI administration remains robust and effective.
“The government is currently at a crucial juncture as it approaches the next General Election, expected within the next one and a half to two years.
“In this context, governmental stability should not be measured solely by political support in Parliament, but also by clarity in policy direction, execution capability, and the effectiveness of administrative machinery in carrying out their respective duties,” he explained in an interview with RTM.
Dr. Mazlan added that the cabinet changes reflect a shift in the government’s focus from political consolidation to a more critical phase emphasising service delivery and administrative performance.
“This cabinet reshuffle has the potential to reorganise ministerial portfolios to better align with national priorities, reduce overlapping functions, streamline administrative structures, and enhance coordination across ministries,” he noted.
The reshuffle, according to Dr. Mazlan, is designed to reinforce the government’s operational capacity, ensuring that policies and programmes are implemented effectively, and that the administration is well-prepared to meet the expectations of the public during this pivotal period. - December 17, 2025
