The Cabinet has welcomed the Selangor Menteri Besar’s commitment to enhance procedures for managing unauthorised houses of worship.

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet today welcomed Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s (pix) statement on strengthening procedures for managing unauthorised houses of worship. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had taken note of the Selangor National Security Council meeting held on the issue.

“He emphasised that enforcement must not be carried out by individuals but in coordination with local authorities,” Fahmi told a press conference. “The Cabinet therefore welcomes the Selangor Menteri Besar’s statement on streamlining procedures, particularly at the local authority level, to manage this issue.”

Fahmi expressed hope that the matter would be handled more effectively going forward. The statement follows Amirudin’s announcement yesterday that the state government’s conflict-resolution procedures would be strengthened.

This includes taking immediate action at the local authority level. Amirudin also pledged to enhance clearer standard operating procedures for the state’s Special Committee on Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Sikh and Taoist affairs.
