Cable theft, drug abuse: 4 held in Ranau

RANAU: Four men suspected involved in cable theft and drug abuse were arrested, here, on Thursday.

Ranau District Police Chief DSP Simiun Lomudin said some 100kg of cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia (TM), worth an estimated RM6,000, were seized.

He said the suspects, equipped with weapons such as sling shots, were believed to have been carrying out cable theft activities in the district for the past three months.

“On July 11 at 3.30pm, an enforcement team inspected two Perodua Bezza vehicles at a roadblock at Km 4, Jalan Ranau-Tambunan.

Simiun said investigations showed the male suspects, aged between 25 and 30, were on their way to Tambunan to sell the stolen cables.

“Two of the suspects are locals while the other two hold red identity cards,” he told a press conference at IPD Ranau, here, Friday.

He said all four suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

“Three of the suspects have five to 11 past records of various offences, while the other has no past criminal record,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 431A of the Penal Code.
