Cable theft suspect arrested after Penampang police chase

PENAMPANG: Police arrested a 30-year-old local man suspected of cable theft after a vehicle chase and brief foot pursuit in Donggongon on Wednesday afternoon.

Penampang Deputy District Police Chief DSP Erwansyah Abdul Basir said the suspect attempted to flee when approached by a patrol team following public information on suspicious activity.

The chase began in Kobusak and ended in Bundusan when the suspect’s vehicle skidded and crashed into a business premise along Jalan Yue Min.

The suspect then fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after.

Police seized a roll of copper cable, a vehicle battery and the car believed to have been used in the crime.

Checks revealed the suspect has prior drug-related records and tested positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Sections 431A and 186 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
