AN early morning police pursuit of a suspected cable theft vehicle ended in a crash involving three vehicles near a restaurant along the Jalan Mantin–Seremban stretch on Saturday.
Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the incident occurred at approximately 5.30am when a Toyota Hilux, believed to be used in the theft, fled from police patrolling Jalan Tun Dr Ismail.
“The District Police Headquarters (IPD) Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit, which was on routine crime prevention rounds, attempted to stop the Hilux. However, the vehicle sped off towards Mantin,” he said in a statement.
Upon reaching the crash site, the four-wheel drive lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided with a Hino lorry transporting scrap rubber. A Perodua Axia travelling behind was unable to avoid the wreckage and crashed into the lorry.
Two male suspects in the Hilux, seated in the passenger area, were injured and arrested at the scene for further investigation. The driver fled on foot and is currently being sought by authorities.
The lorry driver sustained minor injuries, while the male and female occupants of the Axia escaped unharmed.
“Police managed to recover several stolen lengths of cable from the vehicle,” Mohamad Hatta confirmed, adding that both arrested suspects have prior criminal and drug-related records.
The fleeing driver is believed to be between 28 and 32 years old. Police have urged anyone with information to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Nor Fadzilah Mohd Zainuddin, at 019-4611794 or report to the nearest police station.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 379 of the Penal Code. - October 4, 2025
