TAWAU: Two foreigners, aged 12 and 17, were arrested by the police on suspicion of stealing electrical cables at around 4pm on Tuesday.
Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin, said both suspects were detained after they were seen acting suspiciously while carrying a sack filled with electrical cables near Jalan Taman Home Luck, Jalan Kuhara.
According to him, during the inspection, both suspects failed to provide an explanation regarding the electrical cables they were carrying.
“Upon further inspection, both of them were found to have no valid identification documents,” he said in a media statement on Wednesday.
Jasmin said the suspects were taken into custody along with the seized items and taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation under Section 22A(1) of the Sabah Minor Offenses Ordinance and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“Police are continuing the investigation, including identifying the source of the stolen items,” he said.
He also urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities related to the theft of public infrastructure to prevent losses to property owners and safety risks in the area.
