PENAMPANG: District police arrested three suspects, including two women, aged between 35 and 45, relating to fibre optic cable theft along Jalan Panglima Banting at about 2.50am last Saturday.

Penampang Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said a patrol car unit and a Department of Crime Prevention and Community Safety team immediately went for the arrest after a telecommunication company employee reported the incident.

“Preliminary on-scene inspections found 90m of fibre optic cables worth approximately RM12,000 that had been cut and left by the roadside.

“A bolt cutter was later found stored in the suspect’s vehicle trunk.

“All three were taken to the station and remanded for investigations under Section 431A of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement.

Sammy said two of the three suspects were found to have previous drug criminal records.

”The community are urged to always channel information and cooperate with the police to combat crime in the district,” he said.
