
KENINGAU: Police here recently hosted a dialogue with telecommunication companies and Sabah Electricity (SE) to address theft targeting communication infrastructure, with criminals stealing cables and batteries from tower substations in Keningau, Tambunan, Sook and Nabawan.
Keningau District Police Chief Supt Yampil Garai said the meeting brought together 12 managers and officers from major telecom providers including Telekom Malaysia, CelcomDigi, Maxis and U-Mobile.
Advertisement“We organised this dialogue to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement, telecommunications agencies and SE as we work to combat the rising incidents of cable and battery theft from substations,” Yampil said during the session.
He said these thefts have inflicted substantial financial losses on telecommunications companies while causing widespread disruption to internet services.

He said that tackling these criminal activities requires close collaboration between telecommunications providers, SE and law enforcement agencies.
