In today’s article, we’re exploring something a little different — not your typical minimalist or industrial-style café. Instead, we’re diving into a beloved Malaysian kopitiam, but with a modernised touch. Our spotlight is on Ah Gong Kopitiam in Seri Kembangan, a charming eatery that brings back the nostalgic flavours and aesthetics of traditional coffee shops while giving them a fresh, updated twist.

Environment

The ambience is warm and inviting, with a clear family-friendly vibe. Their huge poster of a grandpa and his grandchild adds a sentimental touch, while the seating is comfortable for both the elderly and kids — making it a welcoming spot for all ages. Retro elements like vintage tiles and wooden furnishings preserve its nostalgic charm, while the space remains clean and thoughtfully modernised. WiFi is available, and while plug points are limited, you might find one or two seats with access for a quick recharge.

Food

I had the opportunity to bring my grandparents to enjoy a meal together at Ah Gong. Here is what we ordered:

Ah Gong Kopitiam offers a satisfying mix of nostalgic flavours and inventive twists. I tried their fried chicken mee siam (RM17.80), which was tangy, slightly spicy with a perfect balance of sourness. Its fried chicken is crispy, well-seasoned, and large for its affordable price.

The braised pork buns (RM10.80)and rice (RM12.80) delivered rich, savoury flavours, with tender meat that pairs well with the soft white rice. Their curry chee cheong fun (RM6.80) was one of my favourites. Its smooth rice rolls drenched in thick, aromatic curry was hearty and satisfying.

One of their trending items, the Taro Butter Pineapple Bun bun (RM9.80), didn’t disappoint. The polo bun was fluffy with a buttery crust, and the yam filling was creamy, not overly sweet. The combination was perfect, which I assume their other toasts and buns will not disappoint either.

Of course, no kopitiam experience is complete without a strong cup of coffee. My grandpa gave his stamp of approval, saying the kopi O (RM4.90) was “very kau” (rich and bold), and tasted just like the good old days.

Location & Accessibility

Location-wise, it’s located in Seri Kembangan with ample parking available, making it convenient for weekend brunches or weekday lunch breaks. Its nearest train station would be UPM station (MRT 2 line), with a 5 minutes drive away.

Verdict

Ah Gong Kopitiam serves delicious local comfort food and drinks at affordable prices, making it a great spot for everyday meals or weekend family outings. A sweet bonus? Dine-in customers get free ice cream, which I think it’s a thoughtful touch for kids (and the young at heart). Whether you're here for a casual brunch or craving familiar local flavours in a cosy setting, Ah Gong Kopitiam hits the mark with nostalgia and heart.
