If you're looking for a casual yet specialty-focused cafe in Petaling Jaya, Single Dose Coffee might just be your new local go-to. I visited on a public holiday and as expected, the place was buzzing. But we were seated fairly quickly thanks to the efficient staff. The vibe was warm and lively, with people working, chatting, and even families with kids filling the space. It can get a little noisy when packed, but it’s still manageable for light work or solo time.
Environment
The café offers both indoor and outdoor seating, giving you the flexibility to pick your vibe. Inside, the setup is clean and thoughtfully arranged, with a warm colour palette and subtle industrial touches. You’ll find a mix of long communal tables and smaller setups for pairs, making it great for both solo work sessions and group catch-ups. There’s even a semi-private room inside, often used for workshops or events, but available for quieter seating when not occupied.

Despite the occasional crowd, the overall vibe remains relaxed and unpretentious. Free Wi-Fi is available, and there are a handful of plug points if you’re lucky enough to snag a seat near one. If you don’t mind a bit of background chatter, it’s the kind of café where you could comfortably spend a whole day working. Whether you’re powering through tasks or just taking it slow with coffee and cake, the space stays welcoming throughout.

Food
What sets Single Dose apart is the ability to choose your beans. I had the Iced White (RM14) made with Thailand’s Chiangrai RAW specialty pulped natural beans. It came through with chocolatey, nutty notes, nicely balanced with milk. I also tried their Special Dose blend (RM17) black, featuring Colombian beans. It was a bit mild and nutty, though a little pricey for the portion. Their Smooth Waves (RM18), a coconut water and Niko Neko matcha blend was refreshing but quite coconut-forward. A real standout was the Yuzu Matcha Cake (RM19): zesty, light, and not overly sweet. The strong yuzu flavour paired surprisingly well with the matcha base.

Accessibility
Parking is ample just outside the café, making it easy to drive over without stress. However, there’s no nearby public transportation, so it’s best suited for those with their own ride or using e-hailing apps. It’s the kind of area where you can enjoy a meal nearby, then stroll over to Single Dose for coffee and desserts — perfect for a second round or a slow weekend outing.
Verdict
It’s definitely on the pricier side, but if you’re in the area and enjoy having a say in what beans go into your brew, Single Dose is worth a visit. With its community vibe, flexible seating, and dessert options that deliver, it’s a solid pick for coffee lovers who appreciate both quality and choice.
