Fadillah says 52 Cakna MADANI projects worth RM9.46 million approved in Sarawak this year to address erosion and flood risks.
MIRI: A total of 52 projects under the Cakna MADANI Programme worth RM9.46 million have been approved in Sarawak this year to address coastal and riverbank erosion as well as to reduce flood risks, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
He said of the total, 12 projects have been completed, 13 are under construction, while 27 are at the pre-implementation stage.
“There are three Cakna MADANI projects in Miri, and today’s visit is to inspect the Riverbank Stabilisation Project at the Tab Cinaq Cemetery, Miri District, worth RM134,682.
“The project, which began in May and is scheduled for completion in November, involves the construction of a 50-metre retaining wall to stabilise the riverbank, reduce erosion and protect the cemetery area as well as nearby infrastructure,” he told reporters after visiting the project site here today.
Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said that for long-term solutions, 29 flood mitigation projects, including the Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB), High Priority Flood Mitigation (TBBT), coastal erosion mitigation projects and river conservation works, have been approved in Sarawak with a total cost of RM3.834 billion.
He said of the 29 flood mitigation projects, 18 are continuation projects with a total cost of RM3.567 billion, while 11 are new projects costing RM267 million.
Fadillah said the RTB Sungai Miri is one of the continuation projects with a total cost of RM31 million.
He said construction began in October 2023, with physical progress currently at 58.11 per cent, and the project is expected to be completed in November 2026.
