Kota Kinabalu: President of the National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO) Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Hapsah Binti Syed Hasan Sahabuddin called on political parties contesting in the 15th general election (GE15) to field more women in their safe and winnable seats long held by old men.

As her NCWO has formed a group called Pantau PRU15 to keep an eye on women’s representation in GE15, Dr Sharifah said: “We are going to see what the political parties are doing to ensure better women participation in GE15.”

She also said the group wanted competent women with a good track record to be fielded instead of “proxies who could be controlled”.
